Suzie Brown's bio

Suzie is 21 and lives in Hamilton, ON. At the start of her athletic career, which in high school was mainly cross country then in track and cross country at the university, she was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma (EIA). Even if she has been hampered by it during races and hard training sessions she has always refused to let EIA stand in the way of accomplishing her goals. She is motivated to show others that having EIA does not give a free card to be inactive, that healthy lifestyle and EIA can work together, just as high profile athletes like Paula Radcliffe have demonstrated. Suzie ran a variety of races including the Around The Bay, Mississauga Marathon, Iroquoia 32 km Trail Test and the 5 Peaks trail racing series. In 2008 she set up a new goal: triathlon. She started swimming and mountain biking a year ago. This year she wants to complete the HSBC Triathlon Series in Ontario and possibly do a Half Iron in August. She knows that’s ambitious but also that it is humanly possible.

Au début de sa carrière sportive, qui au collège consistait en du cross-country puis du cross-country et de la piste à l’université, on lui diagnostiqua de l’asthme induit par l’exercice (AIE). Même si elle a été affectée lors de courses ou d’entraînements trop intensifs, elle a toujours refusé de laisser l’AIE l’empêcher d’atteindre ses objectifs. Elle est motivée à montrer aux autres qu’avoir de l’AIE ne donne pas une excuse pour rester inactif, qu’un style de vie sain et l’AIE peuvent être compatibles, juste comme l’ont déjà montré des athlètes de haut niveau comme Paula Radcliffe. Suzie a déjà couru une variété de courses incluant Around the Bay, le marathon de Mississauga, le Iroquoia 32 km Trail Test et la série de course sur sentier 5 Peaks. En 2008 elle s’est fixée un nouvel objectif : le triathlon. Elle s’est mise à nager et à faire du vélo de montagne il y a un an. Cette année elle veut compléter la série Triathlon HSBC en Ontario et éventuellement faire un demi Ironman en août. Elle sait que c’est ambitieux mais aussi que ce n’est pas impossible.
