Five Peaks Race #3 - Snake Hills, Sundre, AB

Saturday, July 11th was race number #3 of the Southern Alberta Five Peaks Series. Sundre is a small town located about 130 km NW of Calgary. This particular event is quite different than most of the other Five Peaks runs…it is not what I would consider a “mountain trail run” but very much a “cross-country run”. So what does that mean? Well, while I was running, I kept thinking that my legs felt so great! That’s because there were hills, but they were not as gut-busting as usual, and the terrain not nearly as technical. However, that doesn’t mean that the run was a walk in the park, by any means. The course was a lot faster, which means everyone was moving faster!

The enduro course was two laps of a completely grassy maze of switchbacks, totaling 11+ Km. That’s one of the things I love about trail running, you never really know (or care much about) the exact distance of the course, it’s all about the terrain and how much fun/grueling it is.

I had a strong race, finishing a solid 2nd place again in F30-39, and 6th woman overall, in a time of 52:38. This particular year, there is some great competition in the Women’s Enduro race series (not like in previous years when I won the series, I sometimes think), so its keeping me working hard! But, every once and a while, I remember to give myself a pat on the back (as everyone should), for just being out there, doing what I love, gaining my fitness back after babies, and keeping balance in my life as a new parent!

Photo Note: It was too cool and wet to wear my NATHAN top in the race, but I did have it on underneath to flash at the awards!
