Ultra #6 this year has been added to the record books! On Saturday October 3rd I did the Run for the Toad 50K Ultra. This is by far the largest trail event in this part of Canada , 1200 folks out on the trail is something that is extremely rare! The race featured a large Expo and Nathan was there. I was very proud to be representing Team Nathan 2009 at this event . It was also the first time that I meet Benoit and I really enjoyed chatting with him prior to the race. Decided to try something different at the Toad. I left the Garmin and Watch at home and ran Gizmo free! I wanted to see how consistent I would be pacing by feel. I choose the Toad to do this because it was four 12.5 loops so I did have the opportunity to check my pace an 2 occasions. The race plan went fairly well, the first 3 12.5K splits were 1:19:19/1:20:11/1:19:36. Didn't feel too fatigued until I go past the 40K mark then I started to slow considerably and the last lap was done in 1:30:24. I had lots left in the legs on the last loop but I was having a tough time getting enough o2! I was able to pick it up in the last few Ks and finished upright felling good and wanting to repeat 7.K of the last loop. I finished 41st out of 116 50K participants with a time of 5:28:42. Next up is the Vulture Bait 50K Oct 17. This will be my first ever 50K repeat , did this one last year. The Garmin will be along for the ride ... I am looking to significantly improve last years 5:52:50.
